Frequently Asked Questions

If you are a first time visitor and have concerns about our church services, we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions. These questions were created to inform you of what to expect when you visit Community United Methodist Church Oakdale, CA.

Does CUMC appeal to all age groups?

CUMC is a historic church that strives to be multi-generational in our approach to worship. Our goal for worship is to have the 8 year old and the 80 year old come and encounter Christ and grow in Christ. As a multi-generational church, we utilize everything from praise music written this year to historic hymns.

Are the sermons bible based?

For teaching, you can expect energetic, passionate, Christ centered preaching that holds up the Gospel and is marked by a hint of humor.

Is there a dress code?

When it comes to the regulars, there’s not really a predominant style. On an average Sunday you tend to see a lot of jeans and a lot of business casual. Our advice is simple:Wear whatever is comfortable to you.

Is there enough parking?

We have ample parking available in our own lot which surrounds the entire church. Should there be overflow, during the Christmas or Easter Service, parking is allowed on the streets.

Is there a meet and greet following service?

We always serve coffee, tea, and juice with fresh baked goods following our Sunday service.

Do I have to become a formal member to attend Sunday service?

Absolutely not. We encourage those seeking a church home or discovering Christ to visit at a pace that is comfortable with their own journey.

Taking That First Step

Worship Style

In our time together, joyfully spent with grateful worship, discerning the Word of God’s Love with spirited/enlightening music. Our lives are applied to Christ’s call as loving and healing followers – using our talents to serve our community and our rapidly changing world.

The notion of Christian unity is important to the Community United Methodist Church, hence use of community in our title. Listen in as Matt Whitman shares his own experience visiting a Methodist Church.
